International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026

IMU General Assembly

Dear Participants,

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the 20th meeting of the General Assembly (GA) of the International Mathematical Union (IMU).

As you may know, many of the IMU’s day-to-day decisions are made by the IMU Executive Committee, particularly the President and the Secretary General. However, every four years — typically immediately before the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) — the General Assembly convenes to make key decisions, such as electing members of IMU Committees and Commissions, approving the budget, selecting the next ICM host, and voting on membership matters. This meeting provides a unique opportunity for meaningful engagement and collective decision-making, and we encourage you to participate actively.

We appreciate that you undertake to come from all over the world to represent your country’s Adhering Organization. The General Assembly local committee, along with the Simons Foundation, the IMU and its Secretariat, are working hard to ensure the General Assembly runs smoothly and your time with us is both productive and enjoyable.

We also hope you will attend the ICM 2026 in Philadelphia. The Program Committee, led by Claire Voisin, and the Local Organizing Committee, co-chaired by Jalal Shatah and Yuri Tschinkel, are preparing an outstanding event.
